C Team | Match Reports

21st February 2009

Opposition:                Clarets

Final Score:                27 - 37 (win)

Players Player:         Amy Thompson (again!)

3 O'clock at Bulkington Rec the C team took to the court minus Linz who was on holiday again!!! and Jackie who was sunning herself in Sri Lanka - however we managed to drag Fran and Mel up from the D to play.

Bulkington C knew we where in for a hard game as we struggled against this team last time we played, but we were confident we could maintain our winning streak. Ali played GA with Fran in at shooter, a combination we knew had worked before - so we went in the game with confidence. The first quarter we were strong with Amz and Lisa feeding Fran easily and Ali running her socks off.

The defence were brilliant and Mel slotted in as if she had always played with them, never once looking out of place!! Kim marked her shooter out the game and rarely did she convert a shot in the first quarter.

Going into the second quarter Bulkington had set their sights high, however Clarets didnt allow us to have our way and clawed back our lead. Jo marked her GA expertly forcing the GS to shoot who unfortunately for us started to convert goals which made it hard for Bulkington to turnover the ball.

In the second half of the game Bulkington made a tactical move and swapped Fran and Ali around. Bulkington started to pull away again and played more confidently. Mel and Amz tipped and intercepted lots of balls which were converted by Ali and Fran.

Going  into the final quarter we were determined to finish strongly after two flat quarters, and that we did! Ali getting some amazing rebounds and Kim doing the same at the other end. The final quarter was full of stop starts with the clarets GA tripping and injuring herself so she moved to GS, but Kim and Jo handled their partners brilliantly. Then Ali took a tumble but like the true soldier she is got up and played on despite holely trousers.

We finished the game well and won by 37 goals to 27. Admittedly not our strongest performance, which is not surprising after not playing for several weeks. The D team players Mel and Fran were superb and a big thanks to you guys. Also thank you to Clare Wetton for her excellent multi tasking looking after a baby, scoring and timing!!! and to Mel's mum and sister for their support.
