Missing Stacie, this week the B team went into a game they knew was going to be possibly their most difficult all season. Although without our captain, we were lucky to be able to have Courtney (thank so much for playing :))
Bulkington started the game very nervously and struggled during the first quarter to adjust to the changes, with Sue at GD, SJ GA and Courtney in at GS. Due to a timing error the first quarter lasted 20 minutes and Bulkington finished it 6 goals down, but knew they could turn the game around.
Credit must be given to Courtney and SJ, who despite the strong winds and heavy rain, got some fantastic shots in and both played brilliantly. The second quarter was a good one for Bulkington and they worked tirelessly to turn the match around with the defence - Kim, Sue and Amz picking up some great interceptions and Tracey and Jennie working the ball around the circle well and getting it into SJ and Courts. It was far from easy. Highway zoned the centre court well and Sue and Amz found it difficult to play the ball up the court, but somehow managed to get it up there. Any loose or weak balls were intercepted by Highway, but Bulkington were doing exactly the same.
The game continued to alternate with one or two goals in it throughout the third quarter (which was only 10 minutes to make up for the extra long first quarter!). As Bulkington went into the final quarter, they were one goal up and everybody was motivated and determined to hold that lead until the end. Unfortunately Highway had different ideas, managing to score a succession of goals, at one point Bulkington were trailing by four goals, but did not give up. Everybody worked tirelessly right up until the end, and we were gutted to only lose by two goals.
Kim got a well deserved player of the match, after getting some fabulous tips and interceptions all through the game. A fantastic well done to everybody who played, nobody could ask anymore of any of Bulkington player! Thankyou to Linz for your support and for reserving for us in the horrible weather and once again thanks to Courtney for playing :).
