C Team | Match Reports 3rd October 2009 Opposition: Leamington C
Final Score: 42 - 22 (lost)
Players Player: Rhian Palanganda
On the first blustery first game of the 09/10 season, the C team took to the court minus Jo (sunning herself!) and to say we were all a little nervous is an understatement. As newcomers to this Division, we knew that this would be a tough first game as Leamington had come 4th in this Division (2) last season, and they always field a strong team. With a completely new formed team carrying some illness and injury we started in the worst possible way by going 10-0 down.... I think they took us by surprise, and at the end of the first quarter we were behind by quite a way. Claire had come off feeling poorly near the end of the first quarter and was replaced by Becky (who was a little surprised to be taking to the court, and thought she would just be watching the game! lol) For the first 10 minutes of the second quarter we worked really hard and had some moments of great netball and managed to pull back bit by bit (at one point being within 2 or 3 goals). However fitness played its part, and in the last few minutes of the 2nd quarter Leamington managed to grab an extra few goals to put a bit of distance between the two teams again. Lisa swapped to C for the start of the 3rd quarter to give Becky a bit of a rest at WA (as they had both got to play again). Becky fitted in easily with the team and worked well with Lisa (who was playing very well at Centre). Jaks hurt her hand but was not deterred and continued to mark really tightly throughout the game. With restricted movement in the attack, and some excellent defending all down the court by Leamington - getting the ball into the circle proved difficult at times. Our defence were playing really well, Rhian getting tips from all over the court! Unfortunately we couldn't capatilise on all of the efforts from defence, however we continued to try hard to work the ball through the court to ensure that we stayed within reach of gaining a point by getting at least half. The game ended 42 - 22 - not all that bad considering... definitely something to build on over the coming weeks. Well done girls.
