D Team | Match Reports 10th October 2009 Opposition: Ernesford B
Final Score: 31 - 44 (lost)
Players Player: Tracey Wheatley
After a great start to the season last weekend the Bulkington D team were looking to continue with thei good start, against a strong and very experienced Ernesford team at Bulkington rec. With perfect playing conditions and plenty of support for the team, this had the makings of a very good match. There was a change in the team following last week's win as we welcomed Clare Wetton back to the team after her stint in the C team. For the second week in a row Captain Tracey Wheatley had won the toss meaning that Bulkington had the first centre pass. Right from the start we realised that we were going to be in for a battle as Ernesford showed their experience as they took advantage of a few little mistakes and passing errors on our part to take the first quarter 6 - 13. As the second quarter began we knew that in order to win the match we needed to improve our passing from the first quarter. Unfortunately, this did not happen and we were still making sill individual mistakes, and Ernesford made us pay for them takinga 13 point lead by half time (13 - 26). There were several changes at half time with Charlie Chinn moving from GD to C, Clare moving from WA to GD and Becky Garbett moving from C to WA. The changes seemed to have worked as Bulkington started the third quarter very well with some fabulous shooting from players player Tracey at GS and Mel at GA. The team worked really hard but still went into the final quarter 12 behind with the score at 22 - 34. With a lot of work to be done if we were to win the game we knew that early interceptions were crucial, which is what we got with some great interceptions from Emilie (WD), Clare (GD) and Angie (GK) however even with these great interceptions, tireless running from Charlie at C and Tracey still shooting really well, we were still unable to prevent them from scoring more, and by the final whistle the match ended with a disappointing defeat, with the final score being 31 - 44. We'll get them next time girls!!!!
